about

Written during the Covid-19 sequester, "A Visitor" explores the experience of many people who were unable to provide human touch to loved ones hospitalized with the virus.

lyrics

My face stares right through me
a reflection through a glass darkly
Hands and noses smudge the membrane
blocking you from holding me
Uncovered eyes search for any signs
that you are coming through
But any signs from higher powers
for ones like us are far and few.

A nurse is holding hands, inside
the hazmat suit is shiny blue
The head is bowed as if in prayer
or resignation to a truth
The urge to rush in breaks in me
but something deeper holds me fast
Eyes are open, breath returns
face to face we know at last
Eyes turn searching, yearning
do you see me up against the glass.
